Future House

Lego Future House: If you can imagine the future, you can build it!

What will life on Earth be like in the year 2122? That is the question you will ponder as our Right Brain Curriculum teachers take you on a tour of smart homes, driverless cars, robotic chefs, self-sustaining skyscrapers and more. Learn how futurists predict life on Earth will evolve and discover how innovators around the world are changing it already. Then it will be your turn to do the imagining. You will create your own Lego house of the future – designing space-age furniture for every room in the house and a futuristic vehicle for the garage. Even the family pet will get a reboot! You will consider how virtual reality, climate change and interactive robots could change life on Earth and beyond. So get in your virtual time travel machine and start designing your Future House!

In this class students will:

  • Design their own "Future House" that exists in the year 2122 in poster form and as a Lego model.
  • Study what life was like 100 years ago in the United States as they think about what life might be like 100 years in the future
  • Watch a video of the predictions made in 1960 about what life would be like today --- and judge its accuracy
  • Write a short story about life in the year 2122
  • Draw a diagram of a car of the future that will be in their "Future Home's" garage
  • See a collection of videos on "smart homes" and what houses might be like in the future to help students generate their own ideas
  • Learn what futurists believe could be some of they most difficult challenges the world will face in the 21st Century
  • Study techniques for making effective presentations
  • Present to parents a model and diagram of their "House of 2122" describing and demonstrating their futuristic furniture and appliances room-by-room
