As we build the state's newest metropolis, these experienced students will each be asked to create a new architectural company. Soon they will find out that various (fictitious) clients are competing for their services!
Each client is a company (supermarket chain, football franchise, bank etc...) that is looking for a specific type of skyscraper or building complex to be built with a specific architectural style and certain requirements. As we study architectural styles and techniques, the student companies choose which client they will work for and then create the requested design as their new city expands.
Meanwhile, each student's company must also invent a new product or promotion for their client. As we study marketing and advertising techniques, students create a marketing campaign, magazine ad, billboard and TV commercial for their newly-created product. They even market it to students in other cities within the state of Metrocraft.
Overall, this will be a more intricate and advanced follow-up to the original Metrocraft which will be sure to engage our returning students with new concepts related to both architecture and business.
Class Components:
Week 1: The state of Metrocraft, creating your architectural firm, visiting sister cities, considering client letters, modernist vs. classical architecture, apartments and headquarters
Week 2: Choosing Your Client Projects, Initial Client Project Plans, Budgeting Your Project, more on modernist vs. classical architecture, finishing apartments and headquarters
Week 3: Marketing techniques, creating a new product, prototypes, magazine ads
Week 4: Billboards, creating a TV commercial script, creating your ad, finishing magazines, city planning
Week 5: Checking out the TV ads, What is Market research?, Conducting Market Research, Business Locations
Week 6: A Final Project and presentations
