Are you a Lego master? If so, it’s time to show off your skills! Each week in Lego Adventures, there is a new challenge to build: From skyscrapers to farms, bridges to airports, space stations to main streets, and everything in between! First, our Right Brain Curriculum instructors will review the history of what we are about to build: How airports graduated from landing strips to vast travel networks, how Depression-era farms survived hordes of grasshoppers, how aeroelasticity explains why the Tacoma bridge nicknamed “Galloping Gertie” collapsed. Then, it’s time to build! You will create a model of each type of structure out of an enormous assortment of provided Legos, then present your creation as we photograph and document it. Learning and Legos: A perfect match!
Got an idea for a side-less taco, a shirt that never stains or a no-spill baby bottle? Then it’s time to put on your inventor’s hat and design the business of your dreams! As our Right Brain Curriculum teachers get you up to speed on business plans, market competition, budgets and presentation skills, you will bring your one-of-a-kind idea to life. Armed with your “elevator pitch” you will present your business to our volunteer panel of Sharks in the Shark Tank, persuading them to get behind your big idea! So get those wheels turning, it’s time to take care of business!

Do you like stories about mythical creatures, magicians, and wizards? Or maybe you dream about going on an alien space adventure! Mermaids? Time travel? As the author, it will all be up to you, as you give life to a fantasy world of your own design. Mold your protagonist and give them some villainous bad guys to outsmart, design a breathtakingly beautiful setting or a dystopian underworld. Dream up some dizzy adventures. Our Right Brain Curriculum teachers will help you with the nuts & bolts: Giving your story a gripping conflict, “Stretching out” a scene, bringing your dialogue to life, sequencing events, and choosing those ultra-impressive synonyms. Put away those workbooks, let’s learn math with Legos! Each week you will be tasked with a Lego project to build – from mansions to skyscrapers, swimming pools to zoos. But there’s a catch! Each project will require you to use a particular math concept. Your pool model might require a perimeter of exactly 16 inches. Or your skyscraper budget may call for a mezzanine that totals exactly $250 as calculated in Lego bricks. Our Right Brain Curriculum teacher will have your back – they will review key concepts including area, perimeter, measurement, probability, geometry, decimals, and estimation. Create your Lego models and then get ready to solve word-problems upon completion. You will have so much fun constructing your Lego creations, you might just forget you’re learning!
Our classroom will become a working newsroom as we write and publish a class newspaper! Don’t like that new school lunch they’re serving? Express your feelings on the editorial page. Going to the school soccer game? Bring your camera and reporter’s notebook and become a beat reporter for our sports section. Going to the new Frozen sequel? Write a glowing or scathing review. A new teacher at school? Sit down with the new music teacher at school and conduct a hard-hitting interview. Our Right Brain Curriculum instructors will teach you the craft of journalism, including investigative writing, research and editing. The Kids' Newsroom: It's hot off the press!
Public speaking can be one of life’s scariest tasks, but it doesn’t have to be! In this fun and engaging class, you will play improvisation games, serve as an anchor in a classroom newscast, take the pro- or con- side in a debate on whether teachers should assign homework and practice making eye contact in a staring contest. Pretty soon you will be acquiring public speaking and presentation skills while having a blast. Our Right Brain Curriculum instructors will coach you in using a loud voice, scanning your audience, making eye contact, speaking from notes, and making persuasive arguments – all while you gain your confidence as a speaker. Let's make public speaking fun!

Using the wonderfully engaging books of famed children’s author Bill Peet, in Bookworms we focus on such reading comprehension skills as context clues, literature themes, author’s message, making predictions, activating background knowledge and making connections in order to boost student reading levels and promote a love of literature. Our “Bookworms” also create projects related to a Bill Peet story of their choice including story maps, screenplays, autobiographies and “Monster Stories.” We invite parents to a “Book Gallery” in the final class to show off student creations. This class is specifically designed for 3rd-5th grade readers.
